Last month's Class Notes were faxed to Hanover June 14, upon my return from the Reunion. Thus Ellie French's June 25 death didn't make the summer issue. For a fitting tribute to a great and gracious lady, I wish I could repeat Carl Haffenreffer's eloquent citation at the 1987 mini-reunion, when Ellie deservedly and humbly received the Class of 1930 Award. It appeared in the October 1987 Thirtyteer, and I'd gladly produce a copy for anyone requesting it. But we all have many warm recollections of Ellie and John: for instance, hosting cocktails by their Woodstock fireside at every fall reunion for years. It was a kind God who allowed Ellie to be with us at our 60th.

More reunion reminiscences: As the Leslies missed the prize for the most distant travelers, it goes, not to the Lichters from Mexico, as one might guess, but, narrowly, to the California gang: Callaway, two Geigers, three Kohns, and two Shaskans.

An asthma attack kept Marge Chase from several reunion events, including the first night's dinner, but she arranged to be represented there by a shrimp cocktail at each place, which we appreciated. Fortunately she was able to attend the class banquet, joining Liz Doherty and Ellie as female recipients of class awards.

Milt mentioned that Blanche and Harrison won Burt Crandell's middle-name contest. Ellie, Doris McClory, and I were the jury, and it was a tough call. I'll incorporate others when space permits.

Our 147 broke, by 19, 1929's year-old record for attendance at a 60th Reunion. And after 20 years, 1930's unbroken 1970 record for the most alumni at a 40th Reunion was finally tied by the Class of '5O. Also a new College record of 2,395 was set for the most alumni in Hanover during the ten-day reunion period, breaking the record of 2,3 30 set in 1987. Finally, Dartmouth had to buy cribs, as the number of alumni babies exceeded the available supply.
