They may no longer wear beanies or eagerly beat upperclassmen's dusty carpets to the tune of oneyear investment for a three-year return. But 18 of our progeny joined the Dartmouth family this month, with the same granite of New Hampshire in their muscles and their brains. Ready to endure four Hanover winters and countless all-nighters in the class of' 94 are: Marshall P. Bass (Alexander Bass), Andrew S. Blackwell (Barry Blackwell), Thomas A. Boldt (David Boldt), Derek R. Braddock (Richard Braddock), Alex R. Friedman (Richard Friedman), Jeffrey M. Greilsheimer, (William Greilsheimer), Benjamin T. Jackson (Robert M. Jackson III), Andrew D. Kersey (Eugene R. Kersey), Martha E. Kiddoo (Tom Kiddoo Jr.), Peter N. Kochansky (Gerald Kochansky), Edward A. Kovas (John B. Kovas), E. Kate Novack (Ken Novack), Eric P. Portland (Jerome T. Portland), Eileen A.C. Puklin (Jim Puklin), Julie M. Stevenson (Peter F. Stevenson), Sam E. von Trapp (Johannes G. von Trapp), W. Bradford Whiting (William B. Whiting), Linda K. Zwick (Walter E. Zwick).

Another thing which hasn't changed at Dartmouth is Homecoming Weekend which this year is October 12-14. Make it your business to be there this year! Join the traditonal parade up Main Street, the Dartmouth Night program in front of grand old Dartmouth Hall, the stupendous bonfire, the big game on Saturday, and the '63 minireunion. Sit in the class section at the game and catch up on the news in between glimpses of Dartmouth's victory.

David Hobbs, a project engineer with United Technologies Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford, Conn., received the 1988 Gas Turbine Award recently from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) during the Society's Turbo Expo in Brussels. Why is the 1988 award given in 1990? Well, there were some 1,000 papers entered (David's, entitled "Prediction of Compressor Cascade Performance Using a Navier-Stokes Technique," was written in 1988) and it takes the judges about two years to get through them all, said David, who has been with Pratt & Whitney for 25 years himself. The award recognizes work in combustion gas turbines thermally combined with nuclear or steam power plants. A Rensselear Ph.D., David is in product development at Pratt & Whitney, a leading aircraft engine builder. "Swept fans," a new design in engine blades, and the "advanced ducted prop," a new engine, are two current projects. Dave lives in South Windsor with his wife, Rayona, and children Jefferey 16, and Andrew 10.

Lee Bateman of Stony Brook, N.Y., has been elected president of the medical board at St. Charles Hospital and Rehabilitation Center in nearby Port Jefferson on Long Island. The Dartmouth Med School graduate is a board-certified family medicine practitioner with offices in Selden, N.Y. He completed his family medicine residency program at Southwide Hospital in Bay Shore, and has taught family medicine at the State University at Stony Brook. Lee, who likes golf and skiing, lives with his wife, Sunny, and seven kids ranging from age nine to 26, eminently qualifying him for his "family" practice specialty.

The pressure to improve earnings led to Citicorp chairman John S. Reed's decision to name Rick Braddock to the bank's longvacant presidency, The Wall Street Journal reported recently. Rick's hands-on approach contrasts with Reed's strategic style of management.

So my friends, keep your hands on the wheel, till next month.
