NOVEMBER 1991 Martha S. Hennessey,

As the Red Sox waver, the locals are getting restless, and my mind wanders back to 1978. I've not been much of a sports fan over the years, I must confess, but the World Series of 1978 gave my social status (among some Denver fourth-graders anyway) an enormous boost. I was living in Denver, and my fourth-grade students were very impressed that I actually knew Jim Beattie—the Yankee's pitcher in the World Series! I tried to impress my eight-year-old son, Tucker, with this association recently, as he pored over his baseball cards... I'm afraid that 1978 is ancient history to Tucker. Fortunately, the fact that I know the farm director for the Seattle Mariners does at least catch his attention.

After nine years with the major leagues, Jim is responsible for bringing in those new arms and trying to make sure they stay healthy. He knows all too well how risky this is, having suffered from lots of arm troubles of his own during his career.

Another Dartmouth athlete who has left the field for sports management is ReggieWilliams. The newspapers just can't get enough of him! As general manager for the New York-New Jersey Knights, Reggie has the challenge of trying to fill 76,000 seats and has come up with some innovative gimmicks. They are offering day-care (or "Knight-"care, as Reggie calls it) for children whose parents attend the games, free admission for military personnel, and a laser-and-smoke show to introduce coaches and players to the fans before the game! Let us know how it works, Reggie!

And now we move away from the sports personalities and into the world of animation. Walt Disney Cos. announced major changes in its corporate finance operations this past August when they named Mike Montgomery as treasurer. Mike was vice president of finance before the recent promotion. Congratulations!

And, for those who missed the Daytime Emmy Awards, you missed seeing the glamorously-gowned Adrienne AlexanderRuegger watch her husband, Tom Ruegger receive an award for his role as executive producer we're all a little loony ..."Yay! It's the one show none of our kids will miss!

We recently had the pleasure of spending a few days with Parker "Speedy" MacDonell who has just moved back to his hometown Lima, Ohio. There he will run the retail banking side of Lima's Bank One. He is excited about this new opportunity and about spending a few years in the town of his roots. He also told me that Chuck Reach is a contract attorney with Morgan Stanley and that he recently had his appendix out! Sorry to hear it, Chuck. Hope you're fully mended by now.

My last morsel of news is of Bruce Kelley , who was named president and chief operating officer of EMC Insurance Group Inc., in Des Moines, Iowa.

Still no news from those mentioned in previous columns. Please send (anonymous?) cards if you can answer these questions about others from the "no-news-is-no-news" category: Does Connie Zimmerman still work at Wang? What kind of medicine do ChesterWood and Donald Woods practice? Is Susan White still at Yale? Can anyone shed light on Debye West's activities at General Electric? And, finally, how do Charlie and Betsy Rumely Visser like Chicago, and are they both still at Amoco? I'll eagerly be looking for your cards and letters with news of these and other classmates.

Just specimens is all New Hampshire has, One each of everything as in a showcase, Which naturally she doesn't care to sell.
