Now Hear This ... all you fellows and gals who appreciate, as I do, what our classmates in the military have done and are doing for the well-being of our country. The latest recipient of the "eagle" to wear on his shoulders is James M. Landrigan, who was promoted to the rank of Colonel, U.S. Marine Corps as of September 1, 1968. Jim's distinguished three-war military career began in World War II, when after V-12 training at Dartmouth (and some action on the gridiron) he served in the South Pacific where among other things he was a platoon leader in the assault on Okinawa. During the Korean conflict "Big Jim" received the Silver Star while in action as an infantry company commander. The late '50's found him at Parris Island as head line coach of its football team, and then at Tufts University as its Marine Officer Instructor. In 1963-4, as a Lt. Col., Jim was a military attache in Moscow. A tour of duty in Vietnam found him the recipient of the Vietnamese Gallantry Cross with Silver Star, in 1967. His latest post is J4-P, USSTRICOM, MacDill Air Force Base, Tampa, Fla. 33621. Jim, Lillian and their four children thus are affiliated with those who wear the blue, and even this ex-swabbie will speculate that the latter will — or should - profit by it.
