65 Hanover was beautiful. During the first weekend of May, five of us, your class officers, returned to the Upper Valley for a weekend of business and pleasure. Allan Zern, president, Jim Griffiths, mini-reunion chairman, Steve Waterhouse, treasurer, Joel Sternman, bequests chairman, and Jack Heidbrink, class secretary, attended classes and seminars while meeting many other alumni and undergraduates during a very informative and interesting weekend. After seeing the College in action, I feel confident in reporting that the place is, in essence, very much the way it was 30 years ago when we were just finishing our first year. The only major difference is that there are fewer ugly men. Part of that is due to the fact that there are many attractive young women on campus. I attended three classes on Friday, and I found them to be stimulating and worthwhile. Go back to Hanover. You will be pleased with what is really happening on campus.
Bob Murphy was recently heard doing some Doo-Wop rock and roll in the Upper Valley. "Murph and Surf" is a member of a "Ducktail" rock and roll group that brings people back to the year 1961, when "Run Around Sue" by Dion and the Belmonts was blaring out of dorm windows on campus. Murph's day-job finds him making executive decisions at the engineering company Hypertherm Inc.
Dave Feldshuh sent along several pieces of information for us. He reports that HowieMyers is still a close friend and is Godfather to his second son, Zachary. Howie is also the father of two young children and lives in Turnbridge, Vt. Dave is pleased to inform us of a recent honor for himself. His play MissEver's Boys, previously described in this column, was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for drama. Sincere congratulation are due to Dave.
Stuart Lieber is busy with three jobs. He gets paid in money for planning computer systems at Chase Manhattan Bank. His other two jobs pay him "virtue points." He is president of his synagogue's brotherhood and scoutmaster for a Boy Scout troop. He finds that scouting gives the most payback in personal satisfaction. A scoutmaster produces growth that is tremendously fulfilling for all involved.
John Daily has been appointed senior vice president, corporate marketing for Systems Center in Reston, Va. In his new position John will have responsibility for the company's worldwide marketing and strategic planning activities. He previously held a similar position with a company of some fame, IBM.
I was on the phone with Dick Lochridge recently, and he has some family news. He is rightfully proud of his daughter Kelly, a physical therapist in Boston University Hospital's spinal unit. His second daughter, Wendy, is ready to begin her senior year at William and Mary. Heather is a happy 12-year-old, and Nicholas is a father's dream. Dick plans to franchise Nicholas and retire in a few years. Punch and Debbie are both doing well in all respects.
This column is a brief summary of twelve pages of letters and notes. Look for the "rest of the story" of the thrilling adventures of your friends in the class newsletter. Please help to make these Class Notes more interesting by adding some information about yourself. Now is a grand time to plan to attend the mini reunion this fall. Be looking for the details in your mail. Go Green. Be Green.
