Pete Blodgett left October 1 for New Brunswick, as he has done over the years, to hunt woodcock and partridge. Louise joined him. They returned to their faithful guide George, whom they have had many years. Pete had fine fishing on Cape Cod and great lobster bakes.

Betty Sleigh visited her granddaughters in Concord, N.H. The older one started at U of Washington in Seattle. Bill was devoted to his granddaughters; he took them sailing in his sloop, fishing off his mooring, to the beach, and to the circus.

Bobby White's granddaughter and her husband from Freeport, Maine, are puppeteers under the name "Figures of Speech." In late summer they put on a show in Marblehead, which was very well received. They come often. Bobbys granddaughter in Winchester is married to the president of Steinway. Hence, he has all the keys.

Hal Rider (answers Bud Brown): "I know which end of a horse fights flies, having been born on a farm, and I still play golf... My wife Margaret and I live in Moorings Park, a retirement community in Naples, Fla. My three sons, Don '51, Bill, and Bob gave me a birthday party at Pacucima Club to celebrate my ninth decade on this earth [congratulations!]. The next day we played a foursome composed of three grandfathers (my boys) and one greatgrandfather." You're doing great, Hal! To be continued in November newsletter, likewise the following and several stories on Ted. Caroline McDonough was good to send Schwartz's gorgeous toy catalog, illustrated by our Ted. I'll bring it to the mini.

Great to hear from Mark Emerson: "My most significant item of interest is that after 50 years of teaching history all the way from three years ('25-'28) at Robert College in Istanbul through 25 years as head of the history department at Friends Central School in Philadelphia, I'm still working on my pet course in macrohistory! A course, I believe, whose time has come. It is really interdisciplinary, discussing what the physical sciences, physics, chemistry, and biology reveal about developments in the past that are relevant to present and future human history!" A rare pioneer, Mark!

Bud Petrequin and Jim Martin delight with fine stories on Ted from hometown papers. Will quote in next newsletter.

Thought for the month: Bill and Whitey were a great team for competence, good feeling, and loyalty, and with Larry behind them and the Pete HafFenrefifer legacy they were unbeatable!
