Don't listen to people who say that it's good to be in on deadline. In fact, because of my unprecedented and inexcusable tardiness, I ended up getting a lot of great mail. The major bonanza was a letter from Emily Saltzman, a friend from way back in the early 'shmen days (I spell my name with a "K," by the way, Emily). Emily reports that she is engaged to be married next November to David Hoffner and writes that Julie Mazman graduated from Kellogg Business School and is working for Sara Lee in Chicago and talks to Kate Lauer, who has taken up the second oldest profession (Jurisprudence) and is living in New York close to Lynn (Brody) Adelman as she does her residency in radiology at St. Luke's Hospital near Dr. Holly Anderson, who is doing her residency in cardiology at New York Hospital and plans to visit Dr. Claire McEachem as she teaches English at UCLA and occasionally hears from MaryBeth Keifer, who is working in the Sierra Nevadas after completing a graduate program in Arizona and is staying in touch with Emily Saltzman in her new job as an assistant to Governor Cuomo, who is NOT running for president (maybe). More details on Emily's engagement front to follow...

I also received a long letter from AmyBaron, who is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Spanish literature at the "Harvard of the South" after having finished her master's at NYU. Amy also reports that she is in love, but I am unable to elaborate because it seems my own friends don't trust me to keep their innermost secrets. What's wrong with you people? I can't believe that you think I would whore myself to this column, betraying your sacred trust in me for a few lines of copy... [Anyone with detes on Amy can call our special information line at 1-800-RAT-FINK, all calls kept confidential]. Joining Amy on the quest for higher learning is Betsy Duquette, who has recently moved to New York to get a graduate degree at NYU.

We've also heard through tie grapevine: Jay Berkow is living in New York and directed summer stock. Also, look for fellow thespian Suzanne Powers, who has a 30-second solo commercial for Pampers. ElizabethWebb was married last September to Craig Bradley '82, a dean at Kenyon College, and is getting her doctorate in biology. Kathy Tucker graduated from University of Michigan at Ann Arbor with a degree in Slavic literature and languages. Margaret Timothy is getting her law degree at University of Maine at Portland. Ann Schoenfeld recently bought a house in Berkeley with Peter Miller (Thayer '85) and is getting her M.A. in Third World development issues at, you guessed it, UC Berkeley.

Finally, on the baby front, Lisa Anderson writes that she recently had a baby girl, Angelica Rae Deibel, with her husband, Andreas Deibel '84. Lisa works as a stage manager at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, where Andreas worked as props master before leaving to do R & D for Augustine Medical, a research firm.

It's also rumored that Sally Schwartz Higginson is pregnant in D.C., but of course we can't print such an unsubstantiated rumor until it's confirmed... so give me a call sometime, Sally (you've got my 800 number!). Hope Santa treated you right.
