"April showers bring May flowers." Or so they say. Of course in L.A., land of the continuous drought, this tends not to be the case. But enough spring fever, we've got a lot of ground to cover ...
Reader Diane Rizzi writes that Dru Van Hengel is featured on the last page of January's "Shape" magazine. Last October Dru raced in a 41 -mile canoe race off the coast of Hawaii and won! Diane also reports that JeanneMiller's daughter, Meghan, has begun walking, and that Alison Frankel and Dan Fagin are pregnant, delivery expected in April.
We recently received a press release informing us that Jenny Gabler has been promoted to senior associate of the emerging and middlemarket service department at Coopers & Lybrand. Look for a translation of this title in next month's column.
We have a winner in our "Save the editor's lazy butt" contest. A smelly reunion towel (yes, there's still a gross of them sitting around Blunt) goes out to Suzanne Burnham for her information-packed two-page letter detailing the Chicago wedding of Lisa Reilly and Robert Nadler. Suzanne even underlined the '85 names (a class secretary's dream!). She writes that, after honeymooning in Switzerland, the happy couple returned to St. Louis where Robert is a Urology resident and Lisa practices real estate law. There were a number of alums in the wedding party, including '85s Chris Bean (an orthopedics resident in Rochester, N.Y.), Kevin Omland (practicing law in Virginia), Glen Eberle (in the air force out of Boise, Idaho), Lisa Wiersmal (working for Tribune Broadcasting in Chicago), and Suzanne herself (working at Andersen Consulting in N.Y.C.).
Also at the wedding was Mark Schulein (an "aspiring wedding photographer"), TomHorton (teaching history and Nordic skiing in Vermont), Kim Steere (living in Etna, N.H., applying to grad schools), Brad Kliber and Scott McDonald. Thanks for the letter, Suzanne!
Now, from the other side of the mail bag, Steve Hartmann shows us how not to write a letter to the editor. An excerpt: "I've been enjoying the '85 column (he starts strong)... even if your description of what you've been doing involves typical LA industry-type puffery..." Puffery? Chill, dude. No doubt Steve's gained his new grassroots perspective clerking for a Federal District court judge in that incredibly grounded and earthy town of Washington, D.C. He also reports bumping into Nancy Kopans (in her first year of law school at Georgetown), Adam Klinger and his wife Patti, and Anne Goodwin (working for National Public Radio) and her husband Hampton.
Next time you're in Hanover . . . DanHeyman, who's categorized in the Blunt Alumni Center class listing as "POSITION: Student; FUNCTION: Learning; INDUSTRY: Graduate School," is having a showing of his artwork at the Hop throughout March and April.
Finally, we recently spoke to TomJohnston who told us that he took it as a point of pride that he has never been mentioned in the Class Notes, and never wants to be. Don't worry Tom, we'll never write about you or the fact that you're living in Seatde and working for the Microsoft Company. Your secret's safe with us.
