While I was shuffling through an unusually large pile of leaves on my front lawn last week, my mind went back—for no reason at all and with a touch of nostalgia to that week in early September of 1923 when 591 classmates either walked or went by other conveyance up the long hill from the railroad station in Norwich, Vt., to the Hanover Plain to matriculate at Dartmouth College. According to my records, 118 of these are still well above ground, and 96 have already received an annual class birthday card to which was affixed a gold star to signify achievement in "making it" to 85.

Commenting on his star, Gordon Colbywrote, "Being 85 gives me pause. Mary and I are luckier than most and get around, with caution, without the use of canes or other contrivances. Mary gave me an 85th party at a nearby country inn, where we were happily graced by the presence of children and children-in-law."

Among other gold star recipients was SteveOsborn, who was glad that he made it. He commented on the picture on his last class birthday card of a student walking in the snow 8in front of Dartmouth Hall with a pair of skis over his shoulder. Steve was glad it was not a rifle.

Bob Page wrote from Needham, Mass., via his wife, Madeline, that the two are well and get to Norwood, Mass., quite often to see the late Bob Williamson's wife, Peg, who lives in a nursing home there. The Pages keep fit by walking to town every morning to fetch the daily paper—in order to make sure they don't slip up, they had to cancel the daily delivery of the paper.

One of our older (and therefore more experienced) classmates, Ted Swanson of Litchfield, Conn., sent in this encouraging note: "Am still well at 86 and hope to make it 8to 100 or more." Both Ted and his wife Dorot othy kee?p busy by increasing their reading cwime, as bad leg complications cut down on travel.

The last news for this month is the death of Morton Hastings Cavis on September 22. Our parting word is again "Keep Healthy."
