The baton has been passed on. After long years working on this column, Skip Louis retired as our class secretary this past spring. Having just inherited from my son Preston '90 his Macintosh computer, I succumbed to Class President John Grafs impassioned plea for a volunteer during the course of our Executive Committee meeting during the Homecoming Weekend.

You can make my task an easy one. Send me information about yourself: family, Dartmouth involvement, community involvement, and your work. Send letters, newsclippings, everything. John Murphy, our class newsletter editor par excellence, wants your activities, too (143 Girard Ave, Hartford, CT 06105).

Our 35 th Reunion is less than a year and a half away. Exact dates will be coming to you shortly. Plan now for some time in June of 1992 to be in Hanover for this occasion. It will be fun to see how the class of '58 is doing in its 50's. For instance, last summer I was swimming in Lake Fairlee. I am still smarting from the comment my twenty-one year old son made as I came out of the lake: he remarked, "I will never let myself look like that!" Let's see how we look at our 35 th in June 1992. Look forward to seeing you there!

As mentioned, our Executive Committee met during the Yale-Dartmouth Homecoming Weekend in October (a good weekend for Dartmouth athletics). We voted to support the Dartmouth Sponsors Program in the amount of $250, two writing assistants for a term at the undergraduate composition center for $900, and $1,000 to plant trees around the green—Dutch elm disease continues to take its toll.

John Murphy has been elected president of the newsletter editors and Skip Louis was honored as secretary of the year last spring. Congratulations from your classmates! Kynaston McShine, senior curator of the Museum of Modern Art, lead a group of Hood Museum Lathrop Fellows on a tour of several art galleries in New York City in the fall. TomJackson, U.S. Dictrict Judge in Washington, D.G., had the tough job of presiding over the trial of Mayor Marion Barry. He will also be on the Alumni Council filling out the unexpired term of another Dartmouth judge. Bob Downey and I have had the privilege of serving on the President's Advisory Committee. Yes, a capital campaign is about to be launched. As I have come to know Jim Freedman and the senior appointments which he has made, I am enthusiastic about the future of the college. There are issues facing Dartmouth which we all know about, but I am encouraged about the leadership that is emerging under the President.

You have now for some time had the class questionnaire on your hands. About ten percent of us have responded at this time. Take a moment to fill it out and get it back. It will be a part of our class planning both for the 35 th Reunion and class activities beyond them.

It's been a while, but let me assure you that the class of '58 is back "in the news," no longer the "silent generation." Next month, and in the months that follow, your news will be the focus. Send me yours at the address listed below. Here we go, "'58, out!"
