THE COLLEGE SHOULD PROCEED through the next 15 years without "substantial changes in its size, character, or identity," says the Planning Steering Committee's report. There will, however, be some mid-course corrections. The College's navigational tools will include a myriad of new studies, reports, and planning documents. In the near future, expect:
• A complete review of the undergraduate curriculum, conducted by the Dean of Faculty, which will evaluate the rigor of academic departments and major programs and the success of the curriculum in meeting Dartmouth's educational goals.
• A long-range financial plan for the College, which will serve as "a continuing reassessment of mission, objectives, and fiscal limits."
• In conjunction with the architects Venturi Scott Brown and Associates, a series of facilities plans that will take into account the space vacated by the relocation of the medical center to Lebanon and the College's building needs over the next several decades.
• A study of admissions patterns and strategies, with an emphasis on minority recruitment.
• An examination of relations between the graduate and undergraduate programs and an assessment of curricula at Thayer, Tuck, and the Medical School.
• A review of the arts at Dartmouth, including a study of space needs at the Hopkins Center and its possible renovation.
• A report on athletics, which may discuss the effects of recent budget cuts and suggest future goals.
Athletics are another aspect thatthe College intends to tackle.
