The usual sad news: reports are in of the deaths of Daniel S. Slawson on July 29 in Mexico; Harold E. White on November 7 in New York City; and James Gamble Rogers II on November 13 in Winter Park, Fla.

Ralph "Jamie" Jameson's granddaughter Bobbie Craig Jameson is a freshman at Dartmouth. Her father is Craig Jameson '60, and her maternal grandfather was Douglas Craig '24.

Ken and Harle Montgomery recently flew to London on the Concorde to visit the Lathems. There they learned that librarian Lathem had received at Baker Library four of Ted Geisel's original cartoons, three in color and one in black and white, from Fran Zalm. She and George had long held them.

Pete Haffenreffer still enjoys reasonably good health and life in general, but Ginny is not well and requires nurses around the clock. He is upset about The Review, as many of the alumni are. Line Davis' letter to The Review criticizing the paper for calling President Freedman a liar was published.

Francis "Brownie" Brown is fine, settled in his new home in Topsham, Maine. He spent Thanksgiving in the Berkshires with family, including three great-grandchildren.

The Sleighs spent a week in Washington recently, viewing their son's name on the Vietnam Memorial for the first time. Their granddaughter, Ayn Whyteface, having majored in environmental biology at Barnard, is now in Seattle studying for her master's in forestry at the University of Washington. Teaching at a conservation camp in the summer, she used Dr. Seuss' book The Lorax as a teaching tool and had a nice letter from the doctor (Geisel) himself.

According to Larry Leavitt, who keeps in touch with classmates and widows, we are now down to sixty "active" members, with a few who keep in touch but don't contribute to the Alumni Fund.

Thought for the month: Aging, like a clock, is a matter of time. Winding up requires energy; winding down is easier.
