Not being able to get any word from our living classmates, I have decided to ask the class widows to give me some information about their families and themselves.
Corinne Thrall writes that she is still living in the house that she and Henry moved into 41 years ago. Their oldest daughter, Betty, is married to Wood R. Foster, 1933, and lives in St. Paul. They have four sons and one daughter. The oldest son is a Dartmouth graduate. Mrs. Wood Foster has been Head of the American Field Service since it started. The younger daughter, Corinne, is married to James D. Burns and they have a son, Gillis, and a set of twins, Geoffrey and Corinne.
Rachel Merchant writes that her daughter, Esther, Smith '38, is married and has three daughters and one son. The oldest daughter, Deborah, upon graduation from Wellesley High School was awarded a National Merit Scholarship. She is married and taking her fourth year at Boston University. The three younger children are in school. Their son, Roy Jr., graduated from Dartmouth in 1940 and is married to Julia Conant, Vassar '46. They have one daughter. Rachel lives in West Falmouth in the house built by her father in 1902. In June 1963 she attended her 50th reunion at Smith.
Helen Warton advises that she and Carl had one daughter, Louisa, who is married to Thomas Blondin and they live in Parkersburg, W. Va. They have a son and a daughter.
Hallie Smith writes that she and Joe had two daughters and a son, Sidney Lane, who died in his junior year at Dartmouth. Her older daughter, Mrs. Wellington Glover, has two sons and two daughters, the older of whom is married to William Wallace. On December 4 Hallie became a great-grandmother.
The second daughter, Sheila, lives in San Francisco. The older Glover boy is a senior at San Francisco State College and expects to enter the Air Force in June. The younger boy lives at home.
Hallie's younger daughter, Cornelia, is married to John Carpenter and they have three boys and two girls who are in school in Burlington. Hallie takes a trip every year and at the present time is cruising around South America and the west coast of Africa.
Florence Davis writes that she and Shorty had one son, Donald, Dartmouth '45, who died a year ago. He left a wife and five children, whom Florence is helping to educate. Susan, the oldest, is at Colby College. Julia, Clark, Sarah and Donald Jr. are in school. Shorty also had a nephew who graduated from Dartmouth in '34.
Helen Coburn celebrated her 80th birthday on November 30. She lives with her married daughter, Barbara, at 9 Bailey Ave., Montpelier, Vt., who has a daughter, a freshman at the University of Vermont, and a son who is a senior at Wesleyan.
Helen O'Brien reports that she and Mike have a son, Frederic, who is married to Mary Driscoll and they have a daughter, Cordelia, a junior at Smith College. Helen and Mike also had a daughter, Mrs. Gage Olcott who has three sons, Michael 18, Charles 16, Gage 14, and a daughter Liz 7.
Genevieve and Walter Dakin enjoyed a very Happy Christmas as all of their children and grandchildren were with them. Their son came from Italy, a daughter and four children from the island of Ischia, and a daughter from Los Angeles. Their address is now 18 South Thornton Ave., Madison, Wis.
Have finally heard from our wandering boy, Max Hartmann. For the next few months he will be staying at the Hotel Costa Azur, Palma de Mallorca, Spain. Expects to be back in the U.S.A. in time for our 60th reunion.
The widow of Oscar Gibb died November 28 in Rochester, N. H.
