We report with regret the loss of three more classmates. Stan Chamberlain died March 13 in Concord, N.H., Clinton S.Martin died March 19 in a nursing home in Verona, N.J., and Don Moore died April 7 in Venice, Fla.

The class was represented at Stan's services by Lane Goss and Stan's twin brother, George Chamberlain. Incidentally, Stan's three sons attended Dartmouth: Everett '50, David '52, and Willard '54.

We have also learned of the deaths of widows of classmates, some of which have not previously been reported here: Dorothy Gutterman (Irwin Gutterman, who died in 1984), Blanche Simonds (KenSimonds, who died in 1984), and Betty Udall (Ralph Udall, who died in 1975). Irv Gutterman's son Daniel is class of '52, and his grandson, Alexander, is an '86.

Dick Heydt finds life quiet and pleasant in the Carmel Valley (Calif.) "where the sun shines most of the time." He and Anita travel east occasionally (they were at our 60th) to see their two sons: Robert and his wife (both artists who live on the thousand-acre Pasque Island out of Woods Hole), and son C. Read Heydt '59, who is an Episcopal priest in Hudson, Ohio (a beautiful New England type town established in the Western Reserve). Dick says (hopes) that son Read "keeps clearing our path to heaven." Dick is still a director of a supermarket chain in Ohio, a company he knew when he was in banking there.

Princeton Alumni Weekly recently had a big spread on "Dutch" Schroedel's part in the building of the Firestone Library at Princeton. It is a flattering tribute to Dutch's job as project superintendent for Turner Construction Company. The article also noted that Dutch had worked on naval bases in the Pacific from 1941 to 1943 and was at Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacked. He received the Meritorious Civilian Award for "outstanding performance in the construction field over and beyond the line of duty." The article cites him for his experienced organization, indefatigable energy, and pervading good humor, as well as his insistence upon good quality and workmanship.

Bill Boise, now president of the Hillsborough Club in Florida, entertained the Abels and Zahms and Mrs. Harvey Hood '18 for lunch recently. Numerous other "D" people were around there, including Walt Fried '23 and Herb Home '23.

Curt Abel reports from Florida that George Zahm is about to have a new hip to relieve the trouble that has been creeping up on him for some months. BenWerntz is out of the hospital after two weeks with bronchial trouble but has cancelled plans for a European trip this summer.

In connection with the publication of Ted Geisel's latest book, Ken Montgomery entertained the Geisels and Bor-wells at a dinner party in La Jolla on Ted's birthday.

Helen Lyman, widow of Don Lyman, winters in Naples, Fla.

Shelton Stanfill, director of Hopkins Center, wrote an enthusiastic letter to Francis and George Zahm praising them for the unqualified success of the Zahm Courtyard (between the Inn and Hopkins Center) and notes that he is getting numerous requests to reserve the space for receptions and parties in the late spring and summer when people, instead of just hurrying through, will linger, stroll, and fiddle away their time admiring its beauty.

Word also comes to us of the death in Needham, Mass., of Louise (Kirsch) Bankart, wife of Larry Bankart; she is survived by Larry and four children.

Marshall "Scoof" Newton, in a letter to the editor of The Boston Globe, took that paper to task for some less than complimentary remarks about Dartmouth.

Don't forget our mini-reunion during the Penn game weekend in Hanover, September 19-20.

Thought for the month: Even the wisest of us make fools of ourselves over our grandchildren.

Paul F. Hannah '27 was named recipient of the Alumni Award at Class Officers Weekend in May. "A lawyer who has made the law both a lifelong vocation and avocation," he received the 50-Year Award presented by The Fellows of the American Bar Foundation in 1983, and his law school, George Washington University, honored him in 1975 with its Alumni Achievement Award. He has served his class and college as class president and vice president, class solicitor, and member of the Third Century Fund local executive committee.
