Greetings from sunny L.A., where we've been getting nothing but hot sweltering days (but, of course, it's a dry heat). Much news to get to, so let's do it. Our Employee of the Month award goes to Pam (Hohen, who wrote of her alumni-packed Dartmouth wedding which happened last August. And we do mean "Dartmouth"-square-dance at Moosilauke, rehearsal dinner at the DOC house, wedding at Rollins, reception at the Hanover Inn with post-festivities beer pong at AD, and the bridesmaids in Dartmouth Green tafetta. (Actually, I'm kidding about that last part...or at least Pam didn't mention it.) News of the 'Bss in attendance: Billy Budd brought his new son Thomas to the wedding. Ted Meisel works for McKinsey in L.A. (I actually ran into him in the produce section of Ralph's about a year ago). Jonathan Kelly just celebrated his first wedding anniversary with Meg Holliday and he manages the Global Bond fund for Fidelity Investments. Martin Steffan is finishing his M.D./PLD. training at Stanford and moving to Boston in January to do post-doctoral work at Harvard. Barbie Van Buskirk left Procter & Gamble last fall to work for Gillette and has since been promoted. Julie Mazman has the heinous job of working in Florence, Italy, for Sara Lee. Laura Hicks Roberts had a second child last November, Amanda Reed. Mary Ellen Reilly and her husband, George Eldridge are expecting their first child in September. Mary Ellen is a senior product manager at Welch's, and George is CFO of a small bio-tech company in Boston. Andy Ford is working as an assistant to the president of Atlas Communications in Portland, Ore. ChrisMaccarone is working for Northwest Airlines in Minneapolis. Sue Finegan works for Mintz Levin, a corporate law firm in Boston. JohnWolfe works at a law firm in Providence. And finally, Pam and David: Pam's a consultant for a firm called CSC Index in Cambridge: David's a consultant for a start-up information-technology company called Sapient Corp. Mark Gross, Kathy Reilly Gross, and Scott Mellen were among the few remaining '85s in attendance whom Pam did not have time to pump for information.
Thanks again for the letter, Pam. Class secretaries have retired on less!
The only other letter in our mailbag was from Betsy Duquette, who forbade me from divulging much of her letter, save for the fact that Betsy is off to Paris for the summer after a year of teaching high-schoolers in Staten Island. She also wanted me to make clear that, contrary to our previous reporting, she no longer lives with her dog Pete.
Through our e-mail system (man, are we happening or what? We're right up there with Dateline NBC) comes news from Jake Lowenstern and David Seidenberg. Jake's working as a research geochemist in the branch of Volcanic and Geothermal Processes at the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park, Calif. David's finishing up his rabbinical studies at the Jewish Theological Seminary. Those enlightened few on the "superhighway" can reach Jake at and David at .
Finally from the good folks at the Alumni Records Office comes the following: James is a priest at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Braintree. He gave a slide presentation on life in Russia last February. (For more information call Mildred Wilson at the Church.) Jessica Murray was made partner in the law firm of Mousaw, Vigdor, Reeves Heibronner & Kroll last January.
Hope you've all been having a great summer. If you're looking for some good wholesome family entertainment I hear Blown Away is an amazing movie!
See you in October.
