E collibus vox nova auditur. (A prize to the first correspondent pinpointing the origin of this phrase.) Loosely translated, it means y'all have a new scribe writing this column. And a privilege it is to follow in order the Mother—make that Father—of class secretaries, Fritz Hier, whose work I've admired for years.

Our 45th reunion was a dandy—well-organized, well-attended, and enjoyed by all. A big THANK YOU to Bob Paulson and his team. An unusual, wonderful feature was the Glee Club of '45, '46, and '47 reuners, organized by Harry Hampton and directed by Bob Paulson. Their two performances, at our combined dinner and later in Spaulding with the College Glee Club, were outstanding, particularly as they sang some songs no longer in the regular repertoire, but reminiscent to us: "Eleazar Wheelock," for one. Also, how about all those classmates attending from California? I counted ten, most with charming better halves. Way to go, Golden Staters! George Barr has agreed to put together our 50th in four years and to continue as newsletter editor. What a guy. We'd be lost without him, and he'd be lost without Betsy. As for mini-reunions, Bob Aldom and HowardHoots will co-chair those duties, picking up where George left off after 13 years. Mark your calendar, if you haven't already: October 25-26, including Dartmouth Night.

At reunion we were saddened to learn of Art Jopson's sudden death. He and Virginia had planned to be there. Ted Smith, bless him, and his wife, Pat, agreed to continue as our necrologist.

A very special word is in order about our President Emeritus Cliff Jordan. The class gave him a well-deserved standing ovation and a token of our esteem just before we left reunion. I personally have had compliments from executives of other classes as to his performance at our head. Cliff was always there, leading, coming up with ideas (e.g., '45 Man of the Year), and ready to hear out classmates with suggestions or complaints. Well done, Cliff. We salute you. And in doing so, we also salute Betty, who was with you all the way

Meanwhile, in July our new president, Steve Hull, was bouncing off rocks in white water somewhere in Idaho with son Chris and other outdoor types. After six days, he agreed he got as much or more than he bargained for. Jean was right there, paddling like mad, but with her eyes closed!

For goodness sake, write me. I'm lonely down here.
