Greetings! I hope all have weathered both the winter and the economy. News is slim, but there is some. The College forwarded news that Dick Prentice “was recently selected by his peers for inclusion in the Best Lawyers in America 2009. Mr. Prentice is recognized for his work in real estate law at Pierce Atwood LLP.” Dick has been a partner at Pierce, Atwood LLP in Portland, Maine, since 2000 and specializes in real estate matters. Congratulations, Dick. I’m hoping to possibly connect with Dick as I start to travel in Maine more frequently on a current project. I’m a little leery presently as tomorrow I head to Bangor (keep in mind this is written eight weeks prior to your reading it) and I know, even though it’s cold by North Carolina standards here now, it’s still balmy by comparison to what I’ll find in Maine. I also heard briefly from Fern Bennett Phillips, who is also in Maine. Her oldest daughter is in Virginia awaiting news of med school, while her younger daughter is playing women’s lacrosse at UVM.
Proud dad John Weeks ’44 passed along news that his daughter Kate Weeks has earned her M.C.E. and is working for the town of Framingham, Massachusetts, where she is a senior engineer “watching over drainage and evil fluids moving underground.” He says she finds the job challenging and includes interesting contact with citizens. He indicated that at least once she’s had to explain flood situations on TV. My hat’s off to those who toil for our municipalities in often thankless jobs.
Different names keep popping up to be added as friends on Facebook, thanks to the Dartmouth ’76 group. It’s an interesting way to see what’s going on with a minimum of effort. Check it out.
You’ll be pleased to know your class officers are working hard to get things together for the class. Treasurer Melanie Fisher Matte has passed along info that the class dues notices are being responded to at less than a 50 percent rate. We understand that everyone has multiple demands, but it will help the class immensely if, rather than put the dues notice aside to pay later, you take the time then and there to send a check along. The class has ongoing expenses and your participation is appreciated. Before you know it our next reunion will be right around the corner.
That’s all for now. Send news!
