Back in the fifties, when we '26ers celebrated our half-century birthday, it seemed fitting and proper that a class bequest chairman be named to guide us in estate planning. Attorney Bruce Eaken served 1957-66, then banker Hank Parker from 1967-70. For 18 years CharlieBishop, with a corporate finance and banking background, was an outstanding chairman until his untimely death last August. Now Kier Boyd, drawing on his experience in the Pittsburgh steel industry, has become 1926 bequest chairman. He will have timely advice for us in the ensuing years.
Many wives and widows of 1926 keep in touch with Art Wilcox and your class secretary, being interested readers of Smoke Signals and the Magazine. Jerry, widow of Bob McIndoe, wrote an interesting note about their family. Daughter Gail, who lives nearby, is director of the Lancaster (Pa.) School of Art, and son Bob '61, of Winchester, Mass., is president of a Boston investment management firm. Jerry thinks his son and daughter may be candidates for Dartmouth in a year or so.
Ben Kent's wife, Mercedes, wrote from Littleton, Colo., that in June they had moved there from their long-time home in Montpelier, Vt., to be near daughter Anne and family. Ben, now in a care center, suffers from Alzheimer's disease. He is in good health and ambulatory, but his memory is gone. The Kents attended many class reunions and other activities in Hanover over the years.
Your scribe thanks 23 classmates for mailing in their biographies as requested in the December Smoke Signals. Four years ago 30 were filed, making 53 in all. Our mailing list numbers 125, so 72 more are needed. If forms are mislaid a listing will suffice: family data, principal business and title, retirement date, military data, any other selected activities. Now that tax season is over, spend a little time on this, please.
