Season's greetings were received from: Lee Andrews, Peggy and Ed Brummer, Al Bucher, Lucy Cogswell, Jean Davis, Libby and Vance Dickerman, Charlie Hill, Connie and Charlie O'Neill, Mildred and Bob Powell, Ed Picken, Ruth Slaughter, Tower Snow, and Art Spiegel. Also Bill Waterman's daughter, Beth, with a greeting to all railroad buffs in the class.
The Brummers saw the Princeton game, and Jean Davis reported that nearby Maryand Larry Allen were in good shape.
Ed Maas sent the news of Bob Lee's leaving us last November. Fifty-eight years elapsed before Bob's Dartmouth record 95-yard run from scrimmage in a 1930 game against Norwich was broken. In that same game Bob returned a kickoff 97 yards for another record that was tied in 1969 and broken in 1973.
Ed also sent most welcome clippings from New York and New Jersey papers reporting on the Princeton game. He recommends that all of us stay healthy and drive defensively to keep the ranks from thinning further.
With a Goretex patch on his aorta, BillWalsh returned home from hospital sorry that he and Patsy missed the Yale and Cornell games, but in good spirits and further cheered by phone calls from classmates.
On October 5 the Troy, N.Y., board of education dedicated its beautiful new athletic field complex to the honor of Ed Picken for his 42 years of service in teaching and coaching at Troy High. The ceremony was attended by some 6,000 people, many of whom had been coached or taught by Ed. This is believed to be the first time in the state of New York that a coach and teacher has been so honored. Congratulations, Ed, on this singular award!
To this optimist the portents for 1992 look good: the arrival of my Burpee seed catalogue; opening of Pennsylvania's trout season set for April 18; the gathering of hundreds of fans and the players to sing "Men of Dartmouth" after the Princeton game; and reports from my spies in Patagonia that the sun is headed back north.
