With her family's acknowledgment of my note of sympathy on the loss of her husband, Liane Almond wrote that Henry had very fond memories of Dartmouth and his classmates. Jean (Don) Ewing wrote that June Hobbs died on November 25 and that Ori continues at Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro. Completing the bad news, BillWalsh telephoned news of George Stevens' death, whereupon I called Alf Jones because George and he were buddies from way back, for additional information, and learned that Alf had informed the College in detail. Alf sounded in fine fettle, and cards from Ellen and John Chamberlin, Spence Miller, and Anne and George Conklin added enjoyment. VanceDickerman sent two amusing documents, one of which I sent to the newsletter for possible use because of my limited verbiage. He reported wife Libby had serious health problems during the year, but hoping for her return from the nearby convalescent facility by New Year's.

Jean Davis wrote that her trips to Mexico are over because of the hassle getting there and the diminishing number of friends there. She also reported Mary and LarryAllen's moving to Salem, Mass. Like some of us, Jean hopes to usher in the next century, but A1 Sutton worries that President Clinton may run for the presidency in 2004.

Mildred and Bob Powell were most informative about their activities in 1998: attending the June graduation of their grandson from Brown, with a side trip to the Hempstead House built by Bob's ancestors in New London; flying to Florence, Ala., for Thanksgiving with their daughter and family; plans to fly from San Francisco to London for Christmas with son and family, who are heavily involved in business and education matters in Britain and the continent—an amount of travel which is probably unmatched by that of any other classmate.
