John H. Chamberlin called to report progress in locating the whereabouts of missing- classmates. Since his newsletter goes only to '31s, I'll summarize his and my findings in a future column in order to acquaint non-'31s who are readers of this column and may have knowledge of such whereabouts.

Valerie Mecutchen wrote of how much Dartmouth and our class meant to Ed. She enclosed copies of the program for his memorial service which included a sampling of Ed's limericks, one of his longtime hobbies, and of his NASA citation. It reads, "The National Aeronautics and Space Administration Headquarters awards this certificate of appreciation to Edward T. Mecutchen for your more than 28 years of effective and productive service to the Government of the United States, and in particular for your very substantial contributions to budget functions of both the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics and NASA. October 29, 1969, Washington, D.C."

Bill Mitiehan's passing reminded me that he may have been our only classmate who was drafted in early 1941 completed his term of service before Pearl Harbor, only to be redrafted in early 1942. Undaunted by the rapid unfolding of events, that always cheerful fellow finished up as an army captain in late 1945.

Further returns from the reunion questionnaire were as follows: Margaret Bean is still an active volunteer; John Benson reported his current vocation is meddling; Baxter Ball has a pacemaker, as does your scribe; OssieBliss sent greetings to Gristede and CharlieSchneider; and Bill Waterman's biggest worry was that Ponce de Leon's potion won't be discovered in time.

And Marion and John Boermeester were in good health, neither having to take pills, an astounding revelation when the medics now claim that individuals over the age of 70 take an average of five medications a day. Suggests a question for the next questionnaire.

Bill White's and Eric Wollaeger's interests in politics should be over-indulged by what promises to be the most exciting presidential nominating process since "Alabama casts 24 votes for Oscar Underwood." Remember?
