It was a blast! The marriage of Mary Roberts and President Jacques Harlow, December 28 in Ridgewood, N.J., that is. Mary was attended by Jacques's and her daughters, and one of Jacques's daughters read an inspiring original poem to him. I was privileged to offer a homily. There appeared to be over a hundred at the full dinner dance following the ceremony. From the class we saw Terri andBill Carpenter, Ken Edelson, Joan and BobMcIlwain, Margie and Fizz Nichols, Joyand Ben Shaver, and Karen and David Taylor. With me was my dear fiancee, Bobbie Cantrell. We plan to marry in March.
More "wah-hoo-wahs" for classmates: In New York Young Audiences Inc. honored DonHall at its annual benefit dinner at the Waldorf. In 1961 Dr. Cal Sia helped found the Honolulu Day School "to identify and educate children with learning disabilities, and to assist in achieving their maximum potential through a multi-professional approach." Now named The Variety School of Hawaii, the school honored Cal at its 30th anniversary dinner with this testimonial: "The growth of the school and its student success rate are a result of Sia's commitment to serving learning-disabled youngsters, as well as his efforts in securing grants, lobbying on behalf of the students and faculty, and unselfishly reaching out to the community and inspiring involvement." Cal is now chairman of the school's board.
Roger Hillas has been named a director of Bon Ton Stores Inc. He is also chairman and chief executive of Philadelphia-based Meritor Savings Bank. Clift Whiteman, who is a consultant to the New York-based Bank of Tokyo group unit, was named a director of the Keene Corporation, manufacturer of composites for aerospace, defense, and commercial uses. SamVitt has retired as chairman of Vitt Media International, the firm he founded 22 years ago. It was among the first independent media buyers and has annual billings of about $500 million.
Wayland "Red" Holley of Wilbraham, Mass., died November 16. He had retired following surgery for a brain clot in 1971. Our love to Dolina and their two children. ReynoldMarvin, of Windsor, Conn., died November 15. He had retired in 1984 as a director of Aetna Life and Casualty Co. To Rita and their four daughters we offer our condolences. We also send our sympathy to Barbara Lee, widow of Dr. Arthur Lee, who died December 6 of massive gastrointestinal bleeding. He lived in Pleasantville, N.J. He also leaves four children. Late word from Joe Medlicott (without an en!): William D. Wallace died in December. Our sympathy to his widow, Mary.
Mickey and Bill Christgau have moved from New York to Cleveland to be near their daughter's family. He retired three years ago, and loves it.
From Bill West's Christmas letter: "Me! Well, I do the JUMBLE puzzle each breakfast ...get out on a golf course three or four times a week, and I'm happy to report the swing is showing up more often. Handicap at 16 is moving in the right direction. Sinemet and Eldepryl have kept Mr. Parkinson at bay, for which I'm grateful." So are we, Bill. Keep it up. Jean and Bill are in Delray Beach for the winter.
