On February 15 Phyllis and I enjoyed the company of classmates and their spouses at our condo in Tarrytown for a Valentine's Day-plus-one party. Attending in good form were Pete and Gail Baker, John andCarol Cunningham, Jerry and DorothyGoldstein, Rich and Judy Lederer, Dutchand Joyce Oedheusen, and Dick and JanePearl. We rounded out the group with some couples who graduated with Phyllis from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wise. She has been very active with Lawrence over the years, having served in many capacities with the New York regional alumni group and as a director of the Alumni Association.

I had to find out from the College that PeteBarker has been honored with the Alumni Award. The Alumni Council established the award to honor outstanding alumni for long standing and meritorious service to Dartmouth, and for career achievement and community service. The press release related that Pete "recently retired as senior vice president of CBS/Fox Company. He has been a civic leader for many years, involved with the YMCA, museums, churches, building cooperatives, and political organizations. Pete scoffs at the idea of actual retirement and is strenuously pursuing efforts at ownership in the radio station industry.

Several classmates sent news about NormVeasey's nomination to be chief justice of the Delaware Supreme Court. The governor's press release stated: "Norm Veasey is an exceptionally qualified lawyer whose depth and quality of legal experience are known throughout the state and the nation. His understanding of both Delaware law and issues of importance to the people of Delaware, combined with his management skills and nationally-recognized professional abilities developed over 35 years of broad-based legal work, make him ideally suited to be Delaware's next Supreme Court Chief Justice."

Norm has been a member of the Wilmington law firm Richards, Layton & Finger since 1957, having served as its president from 1985-88. In addition, he has been very active with the Delaware State Bar Association, having served as its president from 1982-83, and has chaired numerous gubernatorial committees and task forces. We could go on and on about his accomplishments and I am sure that we will as Norm directs his talents and experience to full-time public service.

John Cunningham relates that he caught up with Norm and Suzanne last year in New York City when they came to see him in SixDegrees of Separation. "Norm and I were in Dartmouth's stellar production of Mr. Roberts in 1953. So this is what he gets for not continuing his career as an actor."
