Congratulations are in order this month on several counts of noteworthy accomplishment. Meri Whalenhas has graciously agreed to serve as Fifth Reunion Chair for our class; she's currently working at Tuck admissions, so she'll have access to Blunt and, thus, the ability to track us all down. Soon you'll get a letter with Mary's address and phone numbers, and I'm certain she'd want you to contact her and pitch in as you see fit.

Let's also give a nod to Bob Kempainen, who qualified last fall for the Olympic trials in the marathon; the trials were in April and I'm writing in March, so I'll try to update you before Barcelona. [Bob Kempainen has indeed qualified for the Olympics.—ed.] If this sounds strange to you, Bob having been a 10,000-meter kind of guy in college, rest assured he'll be trying out for that event, too in New Orleans in June. Bob never ran a marathon in college, but when he finally got around to it, last fall in St. Paul, Minn., he finished second. His always impressed classmates are not surprised.

We'll congratulate Cindy Smith for three reasons. She's finished her master's in education at Northwestern University and taken a teaching job in Andover, Mass., at a private elementary school, and she'll be marrying Chip Wilson '87 next month. Nice work, Cindy.

A toast to Ted Ives who, along with his wife, Kim, celebrated the birth of son Michael David last October. Similar kudos to DawnJacobs-Camp, who celebrated the birth of son Hayden Ray last year, and MarjorieWallace-Gibson, who welcomed Christopher Hamilton last November. The fathers are Bryan Camp and Peter Gibson '86 respectively. Any '88 baby girls out there?

In the turgid new feature News from Czechoslovakia, we get word that JeffHoover is working at the Institute for East-West

Security Studies, a non-profit think tank based in both New York and Prague. Jeff suffered a broken jaw while rollerblading (how's that for some nineties noun-verb gerunding?) in Central Park, but he's fully recovered. In his spare time Jeff volunteers at a Times Square AIDS shelter and works on several AIDS-oriented fundraising events.

Alas, the mailbag is empty, so here's another appeal to people I'd like to hear from. Just three this month: Bash Derti, LenBazelak, and Quave Burton. And in case you missed it, Mike Remlinger is now a Seatle Mariner. More on that later.
