29 The class of 1992 had an incredibly beautiful day for its graduation; the whole weekend was Hanover at its sparkling best.
As usual, I went to the Baker Library lawn to listen to the presentations of honorary degrees, the Commencement Address, and the remarks by the valedictorian. This year I found it refreshing to hear a student speak without any negativism, and with much enthusiasm, gratitude, and appreciation.
Letters from members of the class have not been filling our mailbox, but we do learn news of classmates from various sources.
Bob Monahan's daughter was in Hanover recently and, at Bob's request, passed along his Legislative Library to our son Richard '78, who has been a State Representative for the past two years. He was a government major at Dartmouth, and he has greatly enjoyed his political experience. Bob is doing well, but he still needs the care he receives at Gould House in Plymouth, N.H.
Hal Ripley and Bill Magenau attended the Campaign to Excel celebration in Boston and reported it to be an upbeat, positive event. You may have noticed the picture of Rip with President Freedman.
We were glad to note in a recent issue of '29 Up that the Dartmouth Horizons program is still up and running. We attended one shortly after moving to Hanover and were impressed with that positive presentation of the College.
Joe O'Leary wrote Larry and included with his letter several paragraphs from the book Education of a Wandering Man, by Louis L'Amour. You may read it in a future '29 Up.
Gene Davis is slowly recovering from bypass surgery, and Mimi is having a cataract operation.
Walter McCray reports that John Stigall died in Ventura, Ca.
The Class Officers Weekend held early in May had the class well represented, and it was an informative, enjoyable event.
Hal Ripley and Robin Kaiser '83 arranged for a meeting of the Cape Cod Dartmouth Club at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, where Robin is a development officer. She is the daughter of Bob Kaiser '39. Jack Whitman '46 organized the affair, which over 100 people attended. '29ers presentwere Lulyand Al Finlay, Marianna Hale, Polly and Bill Magenau, and Rip. After trying for hours to garden in the cold wind, Rip thought of this: Thanks to seeds and plantings and the garden season How my creaks and pantings are for some good reason.
