We're running short of new job and promotion news. Oh, we have new directorships for Fred Whittemore; notices of so many new Barbie Dolls from JohnAmmerman's Mattel that we wonder if Barbie is really t and Tony Frank's and Peter Ueberroth's new bank a branch off the Bank America-Security Pacific merger tree.
However, on the T&E front, Ed Parsons, "just marking time till the snow melted," was reprimanded by a Cleveland mall security officer for rollerblading at the mall with "liability... to himself and the customers."
Ed Grant, in Green Valley, Ariz., is entering all the Senior Masters Swimming meets in the State and winning some. He came to Dartmouth (third generation) from Denver via Deerfield, was a navy pilot in the Pacific and in D.C., and then was with Martin Marietta. He develops real estate part time in Arizona and Colorado.
An injustice was righted when New Hampshire Supreme Court Justice Sherm Horton was honored by the Boy Scouts of America at an impressive ceremony in Manchester, N.H. Sherm told me he'd been expelled from the BSA 50 years ago, but"the other kid did it." Daughter Sally is working on Governor Judd Gregg's Senatorial campaign.
What do "Star Trek," "Ironsides," "Kent State," "Winning," "Rollercoaster," and "The Gang that Couldn't Shoot Straight" have in common? They're all directed by Jim Gold-stone of Shaftsbury, Vt., who recently spoke at the Bennington Arts Council. He said "TV... is a vacuous activity, .with neither director, actors, nor audience, .there. TV encourages violence and requires more tricks to get a rise out of people."
Fred Whittemore was the speaker at the Dartmouth Club of the Upper Valley dinner, saying that Japan-U.S. relations will be strained but won't break. We need each other too much. Class Officers Weekend started the next day with many activities. After our well-attended class meeting at Blunt, Jack and JodyZimmerman had a party at their Hanover condo. Between all the events of the weekend, Chuck Reilly, Ron Lazar, Paul Paganucci,Dave Siegal, Put Blodgett, Bernie Sudikof,Dick Fleming, Bill Chamberlin, DaveHalloran, Don Goss, Jack Runyon, FredHitt, Don Smith, Al Collins, Dick Dunham,Seth Carpenter, Tom Wilson, Don Smith, myself, and many spouses were on hand.
Two weeks later Jackie Fleet came from New Orleans for the presentation of the Charlie Fleet Memorial Award, given to a senior who has enhanced College life through Glee Club activities, which Charlie loved so well. Bob Malin, The Al Collinses,Paganuccis, Mollie Carleton, and Leo McKenna '56 were there. Fred Whittemore, a key organizer, couldn't make it.
Bob Simpson just returned to Hanover from wintering at Harbour Ridge and I went to the Tuck graduation at which BobHenderson was doing the hooding and PaulPaganucci received the Tuck Overseers Award. The next day at the Dartmouth graduation, our legacies, Andrew Bridges, Kathryn Calkins, Jared Collins, Allegra Kochman and Tom Paganucci got their degrees.
