The 46th annual 1926 Hanover mid-summer get-together was celebrated August 19-20 with 16 on hand. Cocktails Friday, followed by dinner on the Inn terrace with Mike McGean '49-as a special guest, got the event off to a good start on a beautiful summer's evening. The Saturday morning meeting in the 1926 Memorial Room at Baker Library included class planning and a report on the memorial book program. Later, an outdoor luncheon was held at Pierce's Lodge (known to many '26ers in the "olden days" as Keene's) in picturesque Etna; Bob Kaiser '39 and his wife Evie were guests of the class.

Those who were at one or more of the historic 46th doings were Lou and Georgie Conant, Doug Everett, Det Harwood, Caroline Marshall, Emmie Merrill, Charlie McKenna, Stew and Mary Lou Orr, Les and Dottie Talbot, Chuck Webster, Tubba and Barbara Weymouth, and Art and Inez Wilcox and their peekapoo dog. Arrangements for the fine weekend by Hanoverians Les Talbot and Tubba Weymouth were much appreciated. Reg and Sammie Hanson of Tequesta, FL, were planning to attend and were to drive up from Boston with Don and Libby Norstrand, but both Sammie and Libby came under doctors' care and the trip had to be canceled..

Det Harwood brought with her to the Hanover weekend three bound volumes of "Smoke Signals" covering the 20-year period (1963 1983) during which Hub was newsletter editor. Secretary of the Alumni Mike McGean arranged to have them placed in Blunt Alumni Center. No better home could be found for Hub's dedicated work for Dartmouth and 1926.

Congratulations to Tony Gleason and a welcome to the 1926 family to Gladys Smith, whom Tony married on May 28. Al and Gladys Metzger were present at the happy event.

Having been an avid sailor for many years, Tom Floyd-Jones has felt somewhat landlocked since selling his boat. However, the buyer gave our Falmouth-based "old salt" a welcome trip on his former pride and joy, thus making the summer season worthwhile.

Bill and Gertrude Viall of Manhasset, NY, celebrated their 50th anniversary at the end of January, and Bill has now joined the 1926 hip implant group with surgical success.

Clary Taylor and your scribe share the same birthday, though Clary is one year more experienced. He gets the class birthday card, while the writer receives a welcome, news-packed Hallmark from Clary. He and Betty enjoyed their annual three-month visit to Newport, RI, prior to returning to their Clearwater, FL, home.

Just recently we learned that Ralph Bristol moved to Manchester, NH, from his long-time Newton, MA, home. Ralph is now busy buying real estate, fixing up the property, and selling it. What is most unusual is that he has the know-how to do some of the rebuilding himself.

An excellent congratulatory letter to the entire 1926 family from Head Agent George Scott told of another record-breaking Alumni Fund effort. Taking over after the wonderful era of success established by Al Louer during Al's 20 years as head agent, Scotty added one more Green Derby victory to our 17 previous wins. The class greatly appreciates Scotty's great work in his inaugural year. Not wishing to delay his report for the final, official computer numbers, he asked "Smoke Signals" and class notes to make any necessary changes in his figures. George was conservative in his letter, as 179 alumni donors became 180 (94 percent instead of 93 percent participation). And total donors numbered 408 (including 228 memorial gifts) versus "400 or more" as reported.
