"Their underlying worldview and musical philosophy: Funism"—from anarticle on the band Distant Cousins.
I hope you all saw the article on Distant Cousins in the November issue of the Alumni Magazine. Our very own Matt Berardo plays the piano in the band and also is in charge of production. The band plays gigs in New York and is made up of Dartmouth grads from several classes. They have an album out, "Twice Removed," and have played at such clubs as CBGB in Manhattan, where we know all the coolest groups get their start.
John Anderson writes, "I have been busy working on the Clean Air Act for the last three years. I helped perform the air pollution inventories for Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, designed the inspection and maintenance program for cousin Missouri, and wrote a report for the EPA on market-phased strategies to control locomotive emissions in California. I am currently working on a paper about clean- fueled vehicles."
And I received a message via Compuserve from Michael Cahn. He writes, "I've been living in Ireland for about two years and running a computer-training business. I was in Russia between coups, as it were, doing some informal business scouting around. During a meeting with one of the members of the Moscow City Parliament, I noticed her computer acting strangely and fixed it for her. In 1986 all I could imagine doing with the Russian and computer science I had studied at Dartmouth involved secret codes and wearing dark glasses and a raincoat. Back in quiet Ireland, Suzie and I just bought a cottage in County Wicklow, which is consuming all my free time—l just built a two- room shed and have a long list of projects to do on the place. I love it."
And the latest from me: my husband, Nino, and I are the proud parents of a future member of the class of 2016: Abby Marie Fanlo. That's all for now.
