In the days long ago, when the Sophomore class did its best to keep the freshman class remembering they were only freshmen, one of the great contests was the taking of the freshman class picture. It was important to the freshman honor to get it done, and it was important to the sophomore honor to prevent it. However, when the class of 1921 came along there were new ideas. The story goes that a very small group took charge. They set the date and found a barn on the Lyme Road that was not too far away, but far enough. A set of supervisors was chosen over six days. The plan of action was simple but very secret. The class of 1921 slipped out at night by twos and threes and walked to the barn where they hid until the first light came. Then they grouped above the barn, the camera snapped, and the freshman picture was taken! 1921 had won—the first time!
Lorraine S. Foley, whose first husband was Howard Ransom, sends word to us of a happy memory she and Howie shared with Tom and Rakey Norcross as they watched their freshman sons Dave Ransom '54 and Bill Norcross '54 being photographed in their brand new beanies. Sadly, Lorrie lost her husband, William Jay Foley, in January. We send her our deep sympathy.
