The magazine Rolling Stone has named Dartmouth one of four “cutting-edge” colleges that “help students prepare themselves for the wildly changing world.” The reason: Dartmouth’s pioneer role in incorporating computers into student life—with such things as computerized library catalog searches, a sophisticated, self-in- vented e-mail system, and the nation’s first student- run electronic publication, Sense of Place. (At least two other e-mailed magazines now exist on campus, including an arts publica- tion and “Polemic,” a journal de- voted to politi- cal debate.)
