DUCKING THE ISSUE. If memory serves, crossing the Dartmouth campus about this time of year could be an experience if not an adventure, as aptly named duck boards waddled to stay on top of spring thaw floods. Can anyone recall getting through March and April with totally clean, dry shoes? Nonetheless the "ducks" were harbingers of spring, a welcome sight after the long, cold winter. Or don't they have winters like that anymore? Or even duckboards?
STILL GOING! Like the indomitable drumming rabbit on TV, Art Notch is still plugging along at R.A. Jones & Co., manufacturing packaging machinery. Arts bum ankle prevents his engaging in strenuous athletic activities, but he gets all the exercise he needs educating eight grandchildren.
"A GENIUS... and one of the truly good men of medicine. "So reads part of the copy of an ad run by the Aetna Life Insurance Company, In The Hartford Courant. The encomium refers to the late Dr. John Merrill who, as you may recall, lost his life in a boating accident in 1984. The ad, one of a series honoring Hartford people and places, was largely instigated by Dick Holt and another old friend of John's. Wish there were room to reproduce the entire message. Headlined "Lifesaver," it refers to John's pioneering work in nephrology, including his leadership of the team which performed the first successful kidney transplant in 1959.

REUNION. According to Roget a reunion can be a social gathering or affair, a reception, a get-together, or (class act) a levee, matinee, or soiree. It can even be kissing and making up. Choose your option, but be sure you choose to be in Hanover for '38's great 55th.
