We occasionally get a letter from a reader saying, I haven't succeeded at anything in my entire life, and I resent the fact that you publish the stories of those who do." We have had requests from people who call themselves total failures and say they are therefore worthy of a change-of-pace story. We even tried once to do a special issue on failure. We failed.

Instead, we present this roster of alumni whose careers are on an upward trajectory. Don't look for a complete list; we expect that from you. Please send us the names of those we haven't included.— ed.
