It figures that, with only three more columns to write on this class secretary gig, I'd suddenly get deluged with news. Perhaps the impending Reunion spurred some of you to write. (You can still sign up.) Before we get to the news, however, here are some '88s (you won't believe some of the names) whose reunion mailings were returned to Hanover for improper addresses. If you know the whereabouts of any of these people (or if you are one of these people), tell them to call Alumni Records at (603) 646-2253 to update their address. Then have them call Reunion Chair Meredith Whalen at (603) 646-3162 to make sure they get caught up on all reunion mailings. The MIAs are: MiltonBrown, Matthew Garcia, Sharon Soucy, ValFasolo, Kristin Warwick, Andrew Winslow,Richard Wood, Steven Gutmann, and TomSummerall. Get dialing, folks. Even if you're not coming to the reunion, we need to hear from you so we can budget appropriately and keep in touch in the future.
First in the news flood is more from BarbTurley's letter announcing her engagement to Scott Marr. Barb's friends are achievers, so if you're looking to drop names of people doing cool things in cool places, this is a paragraph you'll want to memorize. Cherise Glick moved out to San Francisco last fall, where she continues her work in real-estate market research. Deb Kozart will finish the first of two years at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government this spring. Bridget and JohnJenkins are newly wed and living in Exeter, N.H., where John is a pilot with American Airlines and Bridget (is this a trend?) is also in real-estate consulting. Todd Jackson is in his first year at MIT's business school, just down the Charles River from Sean Hogan and Renee Noto, who will graduate with many other '88s from Harvard Business this spring. Leah (Yegian) and Charlie Wheelan, also newlyweds, are still living happily in Princeton, N.J., and Charlie is scheduled to graduate from Princeton's Woodrow Wilson School this spring. Tracey Nelson is lawyering in Denver, Colo., digging the outdoor lifestyle, and Sue Rheingold is in Baltimore doing her pediatrics residency at Johns Hopkins. BeckyDudley moved from Washington, D.C., to Boston last fall and continues her climb up the corporate ladder at Houghton Mifflin publishing. And Holly Vinchesi is living in the unfortunately named Belchertown, Mass., while attending U-Mass Business. An impressive list, no?
Some news from press releases slipped my way. Andrew Felder, who works for Dole Food Co. in L.A. after getting his M.B.A. at UCLA, won an essay contest sponsored by Fortune magazine last fall with a piece entitled "Corporate Citizenship and Social Responsibility." The prize included publication in Fortune and, more importantly, two roundtrip tickets to Paris and a week's stay at a Paris hotel. Also, two lawyer notes: Eric Kolar has joined the Jacksonville, Fla., Bar Association; he's working with the firm of Smith, Flusley & Busey after graduating from Florida Law. Meanwhile, Brian Fusonie is now working for Wiggin & Nourie in New Hampshire.
You may also have seen in "Give a Rouse" a while back that Sal Tiano was elected managing director of Bear, Stearns & Co.'s Boston office; Sal rose to this position in less than two years with the company after working for Smith Barney and Drexel Burnham. If any of you corporate types run into Sal in a meeting, ask him to do his Ralph Kramden impression.
Some '88s now in academia include HollyKrueger, who's teaching at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., and pitching in with the schools crew and equestrian activities, and RobHollister, who punted a management consultant job to teach European history and AP economics at the Middlesex school in Concord, Mass. Rob was mentioned in a Boston Globe article last fall about executives finding happiness in teaching despite the obligatory pay cut. "Even though I make less, I work much, much harder as a teacher than I did as a consultant," Rob told the Globe.
New month, a letter from Jeff Wutzke and more tantalizing Reunion news. Start counting the days.
