The 1992 Annual Report of the Town of Newport, N.H., may seem a strange place to pay tribute to a well known lifetime resident, lawyer, writer, and artist schooled in Newport and at Dartmouth College. But Ken Andler is indeed featured there. The front cover of the bound, 196-page publication features Ken's 1963 painting of Newport in winter, and scattered through the report are his New Hampshire stories. More in coming Smoke Signals.
Paul and Cornelia Harper, Baltimore, Md., enjoyed her 60th reunion at Wellesley College. From there they had time to phone nearby Needham and report on seeing Jack Roberts last winter at Shell Point Village, Fort Myers, Fla. They found him doing well.
Ed and Peggy Emerson, Norwich, Vt., reported recent health problems. Ed had a minor stroke, but is now doing well using a cane. Peggy has a case of shingles, which are painful and usually do not subside quickly.
At Class Officers Weekend in Hanover your scribe met up with Martin A. Lower, president of the class of 1960, son of our classmate Martin E. Lower, who died in 1981. Our Marty certainly was all Dartmouth besides having two Green sons, Martin '60, Tuck '61, and James '63, T '65, he had granddaughters Virginia '83 and Pamela '85, and two brodiers, John '27 and Philip '29, who predeceased him.
Historian Ed Hanlon, Sarasota, Fla., phoned to talk about the May Smoke Signals. He and your secretary discussed several of the 18 classmates who were mentioned in the newsletter but were not in Ed's thorough 50-year class history. Ed's knowledge of almost every classmate is amazing.
Recent word from Hanover reports Memorial Book Chairman Lester Talbot's death by stroke on June 9. An obituary of our class officer will follow.
