For some undergraduates, fulfilling the College's three-term physical education requirement is no sweat—literally.

J Among the nearly 40 possible course offerings in physical education are at least four—CPß/First Aid, marching band, a wellness class called "Surviving the Dartmouth Experience" and ballroom dance—that stretch the traditional no- tions of physical exertion.

"It all depends on how literally you take 'sweat,'" Physical Education Director Ken Jones admits. "In the Red Cross class, you probably don't break a sweat. And 'Surviving the Dartmouth Experience' is basically a lecture class. Maybe if they turn off the ventilation system in the class room and it's a hot day, there could be some sweating."

Jones also defends

credit for the marching band citing the movement

involved in the act of marching and the athletic skill needed to line up exactly on the yard markersand ballroom dance. "The polka is a fairly strenuous dance if you keep it up long enough," he notes.
