So, how about Carol Davis's wedding last summer? Nothing like timely reporting. I got another photo, but the Alumni Magazine no longer runs them. Carol married Robert Fiske of New York City in New York City. No, he's not the guy who was named independent counsel to investigate Whitewater, but he is that guy's son. Their wedding was a smashing affair which featured the bride sweeping out of the church and around the corner, with all the guests in tow, to the reception venueall to wild applause from the usually stolid New Yorkers. Dartmouth attendees include Jeff Stein and Cathy Judd-Stein, Sue Elliot,Jill Rizka and Joe DeStefano, Emily Bakemeier and Alain Moureaux '81, AndreaBorden and John Gillespie, George and Laura Morrell Hicks, as well as Carol's father, George Davis, and Steve Mandel, both 's2s, Alan Greener '58, and John Heston '54. (I'll have scintillating news on Sue Elliot and Laura Morrell Hicks in my next column.) The happy couple honeymooned in Turkey, everyone's favorite honeymoon spot, spending at least one night in a cave. I did not make that up. By the way, Bob is a Brooklyn DA, and Carol is an assistant U.S. Attorney on Long Island.
I got a lovely note from Jill SparhawkScott, which promptly and mysteriously disappeared into the sucking black hole that devoured Carol Davis's wedding photo two months ago. However, I do remember that Jill is living in some exotic European spot, is employed by a branch of the U.S. military, is married to another military officer, and has at least one child. Jill, my apologies. Please write again with corrections or additions, and I'll refund cost of the mailing. I wish the sucking black hole would eat my bills.
I got another nice note, this time from Steve Douty. He married Kathleen No- Maiden-Name-And-No-Other-Information- Enclosed Douty last July 24. Steve sent a picture, which unbelievably, I was able to retain, but which I can't use here (see paragraph 1). All I can say is, if they don't produce ravish- ing tow-heads then something insidious is afoot. Dartmouth attendees included Al Acker '51 and wife Judy, Robin and Peter Roberts, Hyla and Ben Wagner, Steven Dixon, KathyBriscoe, Olga and Bob Crowe '81, ScottSimmons, and Jim McKee. Steve also enclosed details on the renovation and expansion of their new Menlo Park, Calif., home. I will not divulge the square footage of the renovated structure for fear of inspiring deep feelings of poverty and inferiority in my readers; however, if the thing were gutted, the Green Bay Packers could hold summer practice camp there. Let's see, Steve—Texas, California, computers . . . must be some sort of computerized immigration scam involving bribes and drug-running.
The College sent a notice that Dr. BillMonafo had joined a new physicians' group in Peterborough, N.H. Before moving to Harvard, Mass., last year, Bill taught allergy and immunology at Washington U. in St. Louis. Bill is married to Dr. Laurie Demmer, who is a pediatrician, and they have three extremely healthy children.
The College also sent a copy of a letter from the U.S. Department of Justice announcing that Mike DuBose received an award from Janet Reno. Big deal, I could shake her hand anytime I wanted to. I don't mind being arrested... And no, he had nothing to do with Waco. Mike is an assistant U.S. Attorney in Maine and had primary responsibility for prosecuting a $2.2 -million fine for environmental violations out of International Paper Company. Unfortunately, he does not get to keep the money.
Take it away, George.
