This column is not the most effective vehicle for reporting fast-breaking news, but I won't apologize for reporting in May a major social event that occurred last November, when Jack Wooster was best man at the wedding of his son Dick '71 to Debbie Franz in Westport, Conn. Ushers were the groom's brothers John '61 and Tom Wooster. Congratulations to the happy couple, and Jack and Mary.
Green Valley was honored in early March by a four-day visit from Lib and Stan "Pete"Davis, who had come to Tucson for a convention ofTopco Associates, a cooperative purchasing organization where Stan was once president. We gave them temperatures in the 80s and relief from the frozen East, and provided a couple of golf courses that they enjoyed.
Previously, Stan had investigated the mystery of Liz Doherty, who had been missing and unreported since, for the first time in many years, she had failed to show up at the September 1993 mini-reunion. Stan's sleuthing finally caught up with her, living with sister Margaret Riley since breaking a hip last fall. The healing process has been very slow, but recent word from Stan, since his return home, is that she's improving and gaining some weight. So we can assure Head Agent GeneMagenau, and the rest of the class, that she's still with us. We're very sympathetic.
Save some sympathy also for Gene himself. Word of my own back problems last winter got around, and from other back owners I've received lots of useful advice, including hanging myself. But Gene has had a laminectomy on five cervical disks, and then, while recuperating, he damaged another disc, so there has been some question about farther surgery. As he can't sit, stand, or walk comfortably, and can't write letters when he's horizontal. I know that your generous contributions to the Alumni Fund would be just great for his aching back.
