My column this month will focus on '64s who lived in Wheeler Hall during our freshman year. This is the first in a series of columns bringing you up to date on the activities of many of our classmates based on responses to my questionnaire. When your freshman dorm is up, you will receive yours. Please return it to me as soon as possible.

As for the former Wheeler residents: SteveAvedon is the administrator for political affairs at the United Nations in New York. A member of the Secretary General's staff, Steve describes his work as practicing "preventive diplomacy," i.e. putting out global fires before they start. Jeff Swain is the director of planning and policy development for die New York State Thruway Authority in Albany, N.Y., while Bill Faust is the executive director of the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Redevelopment Authority.

Brooks Wheeler is a manager in the collection division for the IRS in Grand Rapids and Muskegon, Mich. Al Cotton is the owner of the Business Digest of Central Massachusetts and is a private communications consultant in Worcester. Al reports that classmates Paul O'Connell (an attorney), Rob Bennett (a physician), and Mike Daley (a manager with the Social Security System) are all active in the Worcester area. Mike Bloom is a healthcare consultant in Alamosa, Colo., while his former roommate, Jim Russo, is a physician in Kent, Wash. Jacques Frottier is an independent employee-benefits consultant and splits his time between Michigan and Fort Pierce, Fla. Jim Hughes is the president of a real-estate investing company in Massachusetts, and is the managing director of a business-development firm operating in Chile. Brian Randell is an investment broker and money manager with A.G. Edwards & Sons in Bel leville, III. Steve Roberts is a vice president with Cigna Investments in Hartford, Conn. Howard Soroos checked in from his home in Alexandria, Va. After almost 25 years with IBM, Howard took the "early out" and is now a network-management specialist with the U.S. Department of Treasury. Howard reports that he visits with Alden Wright every time he returns to his native Montana. Alden is a computer science professor at the University of Montana, and is reported to be in shape as a result of spending his spare time jogging up mountains.

There are at least six Wheeler lawyers. Staff Keegin called me from his law office in Marin County, Calif. Staff is a "high tech lawyer" specializing in software licensing when he is not on holiday in Maine. HarryBartel (formerly Gotehesky) is a tax attorney specializing in estate planning in Fort Worth, Texas, and John Holobinko is a partner in a law firm in Middletown, N.J. Jim Pendergrast is a tax attorney with the Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford, Conn., and Tom Adams is the general corporate counsel for the Chicago Title & Trust Company. Woody Flowers is a tax attorney with Sherman & Sterling in New York specializing in cross-border equipment leasing.

At least eight of the former residents of Wheeler Hall (including myself) have gone into teaching. Duncan Bond is a social studies teacher at St. Johnsbury Academy in Vermont. William Woods is a professor of English at Wichita State University, while TomBooker is an associate professor of French at the University of Kansas. Dave Starrett is a professor and chair of the Economics Department at Stanford University. Bennett Eisenberg, Graham Evans, and Fred Roberts are professors of mathematics at Lehigh University, the University of Illinois, and Rutgers University, respectively.

So much for the Wheeler Hall group. Next column, the former residents of Woodward, Ripley, and Smith Halls.
