On May 2 ort and Loie Hicks were honored by the gift of a Boston Post cane at a Hanover selectmen's meeting held at Kendal. This cane is usually given to the oldest citizen of Hanover, but this time it was given to the two citizens with the longest marriage. Friends will remember that Ort and Loie celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary last January.

The cane, used to honor citizens, dates back to 1906 when the Boston Post gave canes to more than 700 New England villages, according to the local Valley News.

Here is a most interesting project: Christopher Johnson '94 and David Herszenhorn '94 have a grant from the Hewlett Foundation to develop historical archives of The Dartmouth, which is "America's oldest college newspaper." They hope to collect important documents in the newspaper's development, oral interviews with former editors, and any kind of information about the newspaper. It is hoped that hundreds of alumni will respond with memories and dates. Herszenhorn was the Dartmouth's editor-in-chief and Johnson the paper's managing editor in 1993.
