October 14-15, our last mini-reunion before the big 50th, was a great success. Mini-Chair Bob Aldom announced: (A) 92 people would attend at least one function, and (B) this was definitely, irrevocably his swan song. It was Dartmouth Night on Friday, and we marched in the parade and enjoyed the rally and bonfire. On Saturday we saw the Big Green pull one out against Yale on a beautiful afternoon, with the sun 011 the colors of Balch Hill. Ted Smith, our necrologist, was presented the Man of the Year Award for past and current service to the class. Well deserved, Ted—and Pat.
A dispatch from Andy Scott: "I have retired from the Political Science Department at the University of North Carolina, and my wife from the History Department at Duke. I am now part-owner of a boat company in High Point, N.C., called Wilderness Systems Inc., which has been growing rapidly. We make touring kayaks in fiberglass and rotomolded plastic; in a few months, we'll begin making a small sailboat—a 16-foot trimaran. (All outdoorsmen, please note.) Anne and I spend several months during the summer in Nova Scotia at a place we have on the ocean."
At last fall's Yale game, who was the retired judge in the '45 cheering section chanting, not too forcefully, "Kill, kill!"? No names, but he lives in Durham, N.H., and has a lovely wife.
From Dick Kendall of Auburn, Maine: "While on a trip visiting several Rocky Mountain National Parks, Mary and I stopped in Jackson, Wyo., to visit her brother, Bill Biggs, who runs the Snow King Mountain Ski School. Bill bought it from '45er Bill Ashley, who later ran a sporting goods store in Jackson until he retired. Both Bills, Mary, and I had a nice gettogether. Bill later sent in his own confirmation of this momentous occasion.
In anticipation of our 50th Reunion, some of us have already celebrated our 50th—wedding anniversary, that is. Joan and CharlesRowan hosted their children and spouses for a week at The Reefs in Bermuda this October past. Classmate Dan Carpenter, who lives on the island, was kind enough to give us a geographical and historical tour of this beautiful place, and we met his wife, Jane, a bona fide native!
Excerpted from the Valley View Citizen Standard, in Pottsville, Pa: "The Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center announced that Robert D. O'Connor, M.D., was granted associate medical staff appointment with privileges in the Dept. Of Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Addition Medicine. Dr. O'Connor completed his pre-medical education at Dartmouth College. He received his M.D. from NYU in Brooklyn. He served his internship and residency at Lenox Hill Hospital, N.Y.C., and his internal residency at Brooklyn VA Hospital." (Bob has moved back home for a second career.)
