For your consideration: There is a nomination committee for our class officers, who will be elected at our 50th Reunion next June 9-11. Should you have suggestions, including putting your own name in the hat, contact Chairman Cliff Jordan,John Leggat, or Moose Rowan. We'd be grateful for input.
En route to their fourth visit to Dartmouth's Alumni College (where they first met!), Howard and Rosanne Germain stopped at our home in Greensboro. Since it was a one-night stand, we reminisced and discussed long into the evening. When they left next morning, they got about 40 feet from our driveway before discovering a flat tire. Howie inflated it with an air hose tied in to the air suspension on the car—what a marvelous feature! They left, seeking a garage for more permanent repairs. They have a contract to sell their house at Hilton Head and will move before year's end to a retirement resort in Santa Barbara, Calif. We'll miss them greatly in this part of the world.
What an example of thoughtfulness is FrankAldrich. I mentioned the mail bag was low, and within a week Frank responds: "ChadRamsdell came to New England in August to visit his North Shore roots, accompanied by friend Patricia Jacques. We hammered out 18 holes on the Wellesley C.C. course, and Chad dispensed advice and tips to the Massachusetts Women's Open participants there. Later we were joined at the club for dinner by Allon and George Pierce, to relish an interlude of updating ourselves and exaggerating nostalgia over days gone by. Good fun."
Don Cole advised that he and Rikki were dog sitting two goldens while son Don and Anne were visiting Cleveland. He said it had been a dry summer Down East, but they finally had two good, productive storms to save their garden. He added, "Last Portland luncheon had four '45s: White, Yates, Harte, and Cole; Mac Donald was out of town."
Our faithful class necrologist, Ted Smith, advised that he and Pat were moving to River Woods, a retirement community at Exeter, N.H., this fall. The timingofthis move threatened to prevent them from attending the mini in October. Nick and Mary Sandoe were moving there, too, at about the same time. Is this the start of a '45 nucleus?
What a nice surprise to have a short visit here this summer with Class President SteveHull and his wife Jean. They were in the area, visiting son Chris and family in Chapel Hill. The whole family were on their way to a cabin in Western North Carolina for some whitewater exercise. Our class president was in top form, and we chewed over several items regarding our upcoming 50th. He attended '44's 5 Oth along with George Barr, who has attended four Dartmouth 50ths. Steve said they picked up several "dos" and "don'ts."
If you haven't returned your bio sheet for the 50th Reunion next year, NOW IS THE TIME. George Barr and his crew need your input. Only you can do it!
