IF ONLY THERE WERE ROOM for all of the hundreds of tales we received. We would have loved to have included the scene by Jay Evans '49 of history professor Herb Hill's standing ovation after he lost a landslide election for governor of New Hampshire.

Or the account by Heather Halstead '96 of French & Italian professor John: Rassias tossing pieces of raw steak at students.

Or the two words of film-career advice Marga Rahmann 78 got from Ring ("Good luck").

Or drama professor Warner Bentley's secret for standing up to Hopkins's statuesque daughter Ann Potter on stage (Adler Elevator Shoes, "but nobody dared mention them," says Rob Nutt'49).

Or the habit of botany professor Charles "Tiger" Lyon of parking his wood-sided beach wagon backwards "while the engine was warm, as remembered by Mam Chase' 47.

We thank everyone who contributed. The stories we managed to print, and those we didn't, have but one common denominator besides Dartmouth itself, and that is a 'Single simple moral: What we learn from professors is not always what they set out to teach.
