"There is a sumptuous variety about the New England weather that compels the stranger's admiration and regret. The weather is always doing something there; always attending strictly to business; always getting up new designs and trying them on people to see how they will go. But it gets through more business in spring than in any other season. In the spring I have counted one hundred and thirty-six different kinds of weather inside of twenty-four hours." Mark Twain.

And so it was, every spring, that we all waited patiently for summer to come to Hanover. UVD, Butterfield Beach, Green Key Weekend, Chariot Races, the Chicago Symphony, April blizzards, outdoor bands.... Now, the baseball and golf seasons are upon us in full force.

C.K. Krombach mentioned to me that John Cone still resides in the Hanover area and is busy with home restorations and renovations. I missed John's presence at the 20th, but recalled our golf match at the Tenth. Hopefully John will be around for the 25 th.

I remember that Sedrick Tydus was the manager of the '74 basketball team. Sedrick is now EVP and manager of all Wells Fargo branches in Northern California and also director of the bank's Premier Banking Division. Bravo, Sedrick!

Walt Freed continues to add to his growing list of responsibilities. He's currently president of Johnson's Fuel Inc., a fuel-marketing business that covers Vermont, New York, and New Hampshire and is located in Dorset, Vt. Walt has also been a Republican state legislator in the Vermont House since 1993 and is now minority whip. He is a former chairman of the Vermont Republican Party and currently serves as a director on boards of the Southern Vermont Art Center, the Park-McCullough House, the Manchester Little League, and, most recently, the Vermont Chamber of Commerce. He is also a guardianad-litem in the Vermont Family Court and has been chairman of the Dorset School Board and a director of the Bennington-Rutland Supervisory Union. Walt, his wife, Margery, and their three children also live in Dorset. Whew! Walt, Congressman Charlie Bass (R, N.H.), and Tom "Yes, Sir, Senator"Eggleston are in the front running for the class of' 74 presidential delegation's nominations. (The election is scheduled for 1999 at the 25th.)

I stand firmly corrected (thanks to Chris"Ooo C'mon" Baldwin) by Scott Phillips and his wife, Fern Bennett '76, who left Baltimore in 1990 to relocate to Southern Maine. Scott and Fern spent 11 years in Crabtown pulling for the O's and supporting the National Bohemian Brewery on a regular basis. The Phillips family now resides in York, Maine, with their two daughters. (Sorry we missed you at the 20th!) Fern manufactures a line of work gloves, while Scott sells small- and medium-sized privately held companies throughout northern New England. Classmates are always welcome in York, especially Alpha Thetas the likes of Steve Terhune, GordonWallace, and John Penberthy. Scott queries: "I would like to know what in the world happened to Rick Shefchik." My records show our former Daily D editor living in Stillwater, Minn., and working for St. Paul Pioneer Press. I think a letter to the editor is in order, Scott.

Just up the road in Bridgton, Maine, MarkRolerson, M.D., is a family practitioner (his practice includes delivering babies) at Northern Cumberland Memorial Hospital. Dr. Rolerson lives in nearby Casco with his wife and two children. So if you're ever Down East and need medical assistance while visiting Scott and Fern (who promise a chance at hard labor on their ever-in-need-of-repair stone walls), he's in the book.
