The Winter Park (Fla.) Observer headlined the news that at the February 3 chamber of commerce Annual Recognition Banquet John Tiedtke was named Winter Park's Citizen of the Year. For some time I've known of, and occasionally reported, John's cultural activities. Eight or ten years ago we corresponded about a common interest, as both his Florida Symphony and my Tucson Symphony were conducting searches for new musical directors. More recently john's greatest fame has been earned by his rejuvenation of the previously ailing, now thriving, Bach Festival Society, whose singers surprised him at the dinner by singing Handel's Hallelujah Chorus, with "Oh, John Tiedtke" replacing "alleluia."

I don't mind that happy little goof, but I am embarrassed to have reported last month Don Shaskan's symposium on group therapy, which took place in November, before learning just a few days ago that Don had died January 5.I offer apologies and condolences to Don's family.

On a happier note, Tucson and Green Valley are being honored this week by visits from several Dartmouth dignitaries. Today Lari Widmayer and son Fred, who have wintered in Tucson, are staying in Green Valley for two days before starting eastward. And on March 15 (my deadline day) Vice President-Treasurer Lyn Hutton and Senior Associate Director, Bequests & Trusts, Dave Haraway '77 will be in Green Valley for a luncheon and in Tucson for an alumni dinner. Ted Wolf will recall that he and I shared a table with Lyn at a class dinner when Lyn, then a recent newcomer to Hanover, was the guest speaker for our October 1990 minireunion. I've been such an enthusiastic advance agent for Lyn that four Cornellians are joining Dartmouth at the dinner.
