Highlight of the 1996 Class Officers Weekend was the presentation of the 1996 Special Recognition Award to the Class of 1940 for "...all you do and have done to enrich Dartmouth." Each member of the class should take great pride in the recognition received for the following accomplishments:

Class shows the same brisk pace and verve that it did in its undergraduate days. After our 55th Reunion, that's something.

Exceeded it's Reunion Alumni Fund goal. Hats off to Ted Miller and his workers.

• Supports generous memorial book program. A book (average $40) is purchasedby Baker Library in memory of each deceasedclassmate—program, is fully funded.

• Finances the lighting of Baker Tower. This project is also fully funded.

• Funds a student intern in the office of alumni relations. The Bob Austin Fund.

• Meets formally and informally in and about Hanover. Brownie and Bill make ithappen.

• 75 percent of the class still pay class dues. Way to go Stet.

• First-rate newsletters and a communication network that extends to all corners of the nation. You do this by sending news.Bill Chapin and your secretary thank youkeep it up.

Stet Wetzler observed, "I hope that this award will stir up some enthusiasm in some of our members."

From Chet Berry, "Ruthe and I attended the memorial service for GordieWentworth at the Chatham Baptist Church. Sid McPherson, Bill Daniels, and Tic Chrisholm (Jack) also attended. It was a very nice service and remembrance of a very much liked classmate. He will be genuinely missed."

Bob Graham's The Dartmouth Story is now in paperback ($12.95) at the Dartmouth Bookstore. Just before his death, Page Smith published Democracy onTrial and Rediscovering Christianity. A recent issue of DAM featured several Dartmouth poets. The class of 1940 has its own—Jack Little, author of "Love Songs & Graffiti."

I finally caught up with Bill Sides. Had not seen him for more than 55 years but we picked up right where we left off. Will always remember his advice about not marrying the girl I was dating—I didn't.
