According to co-founder Tanielle McBain '96, nostalgia for "the raw emotion behind the music" of bebop led to the creation of Dartmouth's newest singing group, Femmes Fatales, last fall.
Calling the sound a mixture of R&B and jazz, the 14 member ensemble belts out everything from Motown to hip-hop. The Fatales have performed numerous gigs on campus and even sold their singing services on Valentine's Day, serenading Dartmouth students with romantic ballads and carnations. In keeping with the oral tradition of African-American music, featured singers of ten ad lib words not originally in the song. Listen closely to the Femme Fatales' rendition of the Supremes'classic and you just might hear the lead singer tell her boyfriend to take a hike.
The hip-hopping Femmes are a Fatale attraction.
