Summer's winding down here at the New Jersey shore, but the best is yet to come September. Great time to visit, so come, and call me: (908) 295-4861. And when you get this it still won't be too late to make it up to Hanover for the mini-reunion, October 17th-19th, be there! Classmate Don Elliott made his annual pilgrimage to New Jersey in early August. Don's from Jersey but has been in Overland Park, Kans., for 48 years. Good to see you again, Don, and thanks for lunch. Don's pretty much retired from his financial business. I talked to some people who couldn't make the reunion, for one reason or another. Ronald "Shipwreck" Kelley is one governing body in Manchester, Mass. In fact he's the chairperson, the equivalent of being mayor in that quaint New England form of government where they have things called the "Town Meeting." Can imagine Ship wows 'em at that one.

His term is up in '98 and he says that's it. Probably get elected as a write-in. He had been a school board member, library trustee, and like many other'46ers, dedicated public servant.

Phil Osberg, still in Orono, Maine. Retired after 35 years at Univ. Of Maine, and before that, five years at Colby and two years at Penn State. Phil was a geology professor, probably the only one from the class of 1946. Had a little medical problem which caused him to miss Reunion. Doing better now and even took up golf. Joe Quig still in Milton, Del., that's down on Delaware Bay, said he probably would have enjoyed Reunion but there were other things that took his time. Joe still golfing and fishing, and spends 6 months at Lake Helen, Fla. You note I don't print golf scores anymore. My conscience bothered me too much, printing all those falsehoods. Joe's retired, a long while now, from DuPont. BillRiley couldn't make the 50th, wife Beverly had had back surgery and travel was out. Bev's fine now and she and Bill are summering on Cape Cod. Bill informs me the Reunion book goofed. Had him working for "August Buick Cos." That's "August Busch C 0.," you know "Budweiser." So listen up Reg Pierce, and book editors.

Found old friend Bob Brodie a bit west of here. In fact a whole lot west of here. Place called Langley, Wash., and that's on Whidbey Island. This where Puget Sound and the Strait of Juan de Fuca meet. But of course you all knew that. Bob retired as an elementary school principal in 1983. After Dartmouth he had done graduate work at Stanford. Bob had lived in San Jose, Calif., but said it got too crowded and now Whidbey Island it is. Good to talk to you after so many years, Bob. More honors for our Doug Leigh, have been advised that his paintings are on display at the Gallery Halls of the Weston, Conn., Town Hall. With the notice was a print of one of Doug's paintings, tided "Gulls and Dinghies." Very good that the gulls are laughing gulls. Tried to call you Doug, see if you're still working whatever, keep on painting. Good news about our vice president, Bob Kimball. At our 50th he was in bad shape and back surgery seemed imminent. Well, happy to tell you that mind prevailed over matter, no operation, and Bob's out whacking the golf ball again. Hope you all enjoyed summer. Tell me what you're doing!
