Our class of '56 scholarship student is Nathan Cook '9B and he writes: "I'd like to extend my sincere appreciation for the class of '56 scholarship award for the 1996-97 terms. Without this scholarship, continuing my education at Dartmouth would be impossible. I have continued to work during the recent terms and was promoted to area supervisor in dining services. I am hopeful that I will be promoted to area manager in the coming term. I also maintained a position grading Computer Science 5 and have applied for systems administrator. Among the courses I've taken in the 1995/96 school year are CS 25, 68, and 78, Economics 1, Physics 13 and 14, Geography 21, and History 3.I have attained a G.P. A. of approximately 3.2. I had the pleasure of establishing the D.D.S. home page on the Internet.... When I wasn't working, I was involved in extracurricular sports. I played on an ice hockey team through the winter and a Softball team in the spring.... Again, I'd like to thank you for the endowed scholarship. It is my intention to make next year even better than the first two."

The Wall Street Journal reports that none other than Clem Malin has been representing the International Chamber of Commerce in Geneva meetings concerning international agreements to control the worldwide emissions of greenhouse gases. Some 150 nations are chasing a deadline of December 1997 when they hope to conclude a treaty seeking to reduce carbon dioxide and other gases that are being associated with global warning. None can deny that Clem's experience as class prez helped prepare him to deal with gases of all types.

George Brophy was recently featured in the Milwaukee Business Journal as CEO of ABT Building Products of Neenah, Wise. George formed the company in 1992 after being president of Morgan Products for ten years and spending 14 years at Masonite. George has battled through some major health problems as well but showed up at reunion looking great and wearing the finest sport coat in town.

The Stamford, Conn., Urban Redevelopment Commission has a new chairman in Steve Osman, and his first act as chairman was to schedule weekly morning meetings to eliminate the backlog of cases awaiting monthly meetings. Steve is chairman of New Canaan-based Cambridge Hanover, a commerce real estate development company.
