It is a rarity these days when a man spends 40 years with one company but Chuck Soule is the exception. The glowing tributes from his fellow workers upon his retirement from The Paul Revere Co. indicate a triumphant conclusion to a most successful career. "Chuck has been a valued associate and is without a doubt a most knowledgeable person on the subject of disability insurance. He is an author, an expert witness, and the CEO of a disability carrier in the midst of an exciting transformation.
He is an expert by any measure of that word, and The Paul Revere has been the most fortunate beneficiary of his expertise and leadership," said one. Another added: "Chuck touches more lives than he realizes by being a tremendously honest, straightforward, sincere person. From him we can learn a valuable lesson: that our lives must have a healthy balance of family, community, industry, company— and even spiritual—involvement. Having that balance has made him an even more effective leader." Chuck joined Paul Revere in 1956 and advanced through the ranks to be named president and CEO in 1991. Congratulations and best wishes on your retirement, Chuck!
The passing of three classmates must be noted. Charles T. Cook of Millersville, Md., died on January 28. He had been a research assistant at Johns Hopkins and later founded the Vista Photography Studio.
Lou Pfeifle of Blue Point, N.Y., died on February 3 after a five-year battle with prostate cancer. Lou ran the family children's clothing manufacturing business in Patchogue for many years and was very active in community affairs. At Dartmouth he was a Beta and played basketball and baseball.
Alexander L. Evarts died unexpectedly on March 4 in Windsor, Vt., where he had practiced law for many years. Our sympathy to the families of these classmates and our thanks for their many accomplishments in life.
Don't forget to show up for Dartmouth Night and the class meeting on Homecoming Weekend. It is late this year—November I—and there will be the usual room at the Inn for the meeting and cocktails, and the Saturday night dinner in the Tavern. Poet Laureate Joel Ash has promised more limericks for those who stay through dinner on Saturday Night See the Wah-Who-Whisper for the latest details.
