It is now only eight months until the glorious '56 40th on June 10-13 next, and our class has set another record. It is the first time that any Big Green class has gotten this close to reunion without a chairman. More than 100 classmates have already responded that they plan to attend but they want to know: What are the plans? I am happy to announce that Tom Rosenwald has agreed to chair the affair if he can find people to do all the work. So here we go again rest assured that there will be a reunion, it will be the best ever, and all your Dartmouth friends will be there. Put it in your calendars now, and plan the rest of your summer around it!
And this brings us to reunion giving. Where at one time the college had high expectations only for 25 th Reunion giving, this concept has now been extended to other major reunions, including the 40th. The class of 1956, standing tall on many issues and other concerns, has never been a leader in giving; we did, however, come up with $666,000 for our 25th Reunion gift, a significant sum indeed. Now we are being asked to at least match the 40th Reunion giving of classes 1952 through 1955 by contributing one million dollars to the alumni fund. Glen French, Wally Pugh and John Tamagni are assisting Ab Oakes in this noble effort, so you will be hearing from them in the coming months. It is a very obtainable goal if we all seriously consider giving in accordance with what the College has done for us and its significant needs today. Make 1996 a celebratory year for you and Dartmouth by participating in a fine reunion and helping the class reach new heights in giving.
